Rarely in my life do sport and fashion meet. Ok, rarely do I meet with fashion in any context. But I think I am on the verge of a Ride The Rideau fashion revolution.
For the past two years I have enjoyed playing floor hockey once a week during the winter months. This year my team was looking for a goalie, so I volunteered.
Now, it has been a number of years since I strapped on the goalie pads, but I thought playing goal is like riding a bike – you learn to do it once and you are set. Well, either that isn’t true or I wasn’t very good in the first place. Regardless, the goals came fast and furious.
So, realizing I wasn’t going to win Goalie of the Year I set my sights on just looking good while losing. Searching for that perfect accessory I opened my grab bag from last year’s Ride the Rideau and discovered The Buff (you know… that thing the Survivor contestants all wear) .
From game one this stretchy piece of fabric set me apart from the competition (in my opinion), and proved to be a great conversation starter on why people should consider Riding the Rideau to support cancer research in Ottawa.. My Buff is now my new workout accessory (and occasionally my son’s). So when you hit the bike trails this summer – don’t forget your Buff! Seriously, what do you think?
